Analysis of Residual Solvents

2021-05-18

Since the manufacture of packaging materials and containers for foods involves the use of organic solvents in printing inks and adhesives, it is necessary to provide quality control for residual organic solvents. These components can be quantitated by headspace Gas Chromatography (GC) method or directly by injecting samples diluted with solvent into Gas Chromatography (GC).

Headspace Gas Chromatography Analysis System

The sample is sealed in a vial and heated at constant temperature for a fixed time. The vapor phase containing the volatile components is drawn into the GC for separation and analysis. Headspace GC can be used to analyze volatile components in the vapor phase driven off a heated liquid sample or to analyze volatile components generated by a solid sample.
