Many pesticides and veterinary drugs are used to enhance livestock productivity. Residues of these chemicals in products have become a problem.
Hormone agents are used to promote the growth of livestock but their safety is investigated in the same way as antimicrobials and internal parasite medications. Their maximum residue levels in food are set to cause no effects on the human body.
The analysis of hormone agents used in meat production is shown below. Trenbolone and zeranol were analyzed by LC/MS. Ionization was conducted by atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI).
